Accompanied by an experienced local guide, you’ll explore some of the volcano’s most picturesque spots, walking among ancient lava flows and extinct lateral craters while discovering the history, geology, and botany of Mount Etna.

During the hike, we’ll also visit a lava tube—a fascinating experience that will allow you to get a close-up look at one of the volcano’s most remarkable geological features.

At the end of the excursion, we’ll arrive at a charming village on Mount Etna, where you’ll have some free time to explore the historic center and sample some of Sicily’s most beloved traditional specialties, including arancini and typical local desserts.

The Tour

The day will begin with a pickup from your accommodations in Taormina or from an agreed-upon meeting point.

In a private car or minivan, we’ll drive through some of the picturesque villages around Mount Etna until we reach the Mount Etna tourist area, at an altitude of about 1,900 meters.

This is where our adventure exploring the volcano will begin. The local guide will accompany you on the hike, telling you about the history, geology, and natural features of this extraordinary area.

Discovering Mount Etna

During the walk, which lasts about an hour and a half, we’ll explore some of Mount Etna’s most fascinating volcanic landscapes.

We will walk among extinct flank craters and ancient lava flows, observing up close the traces of the eruptions that have shaped the landscape over the centuries.

The hike is easy to moderate in difficulty and offers the opportunity to explore Mount Etna from a geological, botanical, and naturalistic perspective.

The Lava Tunnel

One of the most memorable highlights of the tour will be a visit to a lava tunnel.

Equipped with helmets and flashlights, we’ll venture inside the volcanic formation to discover how lava shaped these fascinating structures during the eruptions.

The guide will explain how lava tunnels form and help you understand some of the geological phenomena that make Mount Etna so unique.

The Flavors of Mount Etna

At the end of the excursion, we’ll arrive at a quaint village on Mount Etna, where you’ll have some free time to stroll through the historic center and experience the authentic atmosphere of one of Mount Etna’s villages.

You can stop at a local café to try one of the most iconic specialties of Sicilian cuisine:the arancino.

Depending on availability, you can also sample other local specialties, such as pizza, cartocciate, and Sicilian cookies.

A simple, heartfelt way to end the day by savoring some of Sicily’s most authentic flavors.
